Week 2 Post 2

In last week’s blog, we covered some tasty meal options for those who are dealing with osteoporosis. This week, we’re going to talk about exercises that are good for the bones.

Just like with dieting, no one wants to talk (or think) about exercise. But, it is well worth the effort. Did you know that 1 in 5 Americans over the age of 50 are living with osteoporosis? The likelihood of bone fracture for those living with osteoporosis is reduced with regular exercise.

Below are a number of low-impact exercises that are not only good for your bones, they could also be fun! Just remember to consult your doctor before you start an exercise regimen.

  • Remember when you were a kid, and it was summer, and you couldn’t wait to hit the ol’ swimming hole or the pool? Find that enthusiasm again! A number of public pools have adult swims, where you can enjoy the water without little children splashing you. Others have swim classed for adults, so you can exercise with others your age
  • Who doesn’t like to dance? This routine combines the fun of getting your beat on along with the benefits of a workout. There have been countless stories about people increasing their bone density after taking part in a regular Zumba routine.
  • Brisk walking. This is maybe the cheapest and most easily accessible type of low-impact exercise. Take a stroll around the neighborhood, local park or the mall. Studies have shown that 4 hours a week of brisk walking can help those with brittle bones.

May is Osteoporosis Awareness Month, but here at Electric Scooter Store, we’re aware of it year-round. That’s why we stock a number of items in our online catalog that can help those whose mobility is limited by osteoporosis.
